Installing Hydrogen Boilers
Soon, hydrogen boilers will be the norm for homes across Scotland. At Inver-Heat, we are ready for the change to hydrogen boilers – it’s a greener alternative for homes in the UK.
Hydrogen boilers work similarly to existing gas boilers, but the difference is that they burn hydrogen using the same combustion method. Hydrogen boilers look very similar to the average gas boiler and will operate in almost the same way.

Can I Install A Hydrogen Boiler?
Hydrogen is scheduled to be added to the gas network in the UK in 2026.
The government wants around 20-35% of energy consumption to be hydrogen by 2050. A hydrogen blend will be used – this is when hydrogen is added to the current gas supply making a mixture of natural gas and hydrogen. The level of hydrogen in the gas supply would be no more than 20%, so the remaining 80% would still be natural gas.
It’s not yet possible to install a hydrogen-ready boiler, but you can buy modern boilers that are compatible with a hydrogen blend to prepare for the future. If you’re interested in replacing your old boiler with a new, more efficient model, we can help you.
A hydrogen-ready boiler is able to burn both natural gas and hydrogen, which will make the transition to hydrogen even easier. When the gas network is ready to switch from gas to hydrogen, you won’t need to replace your gas boiler.
